As we descend to the lower grasslands, we encounter the Kona Nightingales, a rescued herd of miniature donkeys that once played a vital role in the coffee plantations of yesteryear.

Description

The tour begins at WOH Ranch, a working livestock ranch and farm operation sharing exclusive views of enchanting Hamakua. This scenic opportunity allows travel through a traditional land division (Ahupua’a) that stretches from the mountain to the ocean and is home to native flora and fauna.

You will drive alongside fishponds full of Hamakua sunfish. Dwarf coconuts, breadfruit trees, kukui nut, sugar cane, taro, sweet potato, and multiple varieties of heirloom bananas are just some of the exotic plants you will see along the ride. Pass by our spring-fed reservoir where cattle roam and horses take leisurely swims before driving toward the mountain to sweeping grasslands and panoramic views. Intact old-growth forests stand deep in gulches where the Hawaiian hawk and Hawaiian owl make their nests in these towering giants. Razorback wild boar, turkeys flock and Hawai’i’s beloved Nene goose graze here.

Our WOH Ranch Tour is ocean-bound so you taste salt on the wind and hear waves pound against the sheer cliffs while we cruise under a canopy of ironwood trees near remnants of old Hawaiian settlements. There is a different price depending on what your group wants to do. If everyone wants to drive themselves the whole time then you would choose a Solo option. If you are ok with sharing then choose the Tandem. If you have more than two people and they don't want to drive, add them as Passengers (like kids or young adults who do not have a license).
