The historic town of Hanapēpē, located on the western (or “leeward”) side of Kaua’i, is the perfect launching off point for exploring Waimea Canyon and Kōkeʻe State Park. There are numerous options for hikes and sites to see in these two parks, with something for everyone. The Nāpali Coast and Waimea Canyon both offer hikers unforgettable vistas. Depending on how much you’re willing to hike and your ability level, we can determine together how long our trek will be. Many guests love the scenic drive and opt to stop for lunch at the rustic Koke’e Lodge, where they can enjoy the scenery and purchase some delicious food.

The Waimea Canyon is a spectacular natural wonder on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. This enormous canyon, which is almost 10 miles long and 3,600 feet deep, is one of the world’s deepest canyons. The Waimea Canyon is also home to some of the most beautiful natural scenery on the island, with its crimson and orange cliffs, lush green vegetation, and cascading waterfalls. Hiking in the Waimea Canyon is the perfect way to see this natural wonder up close.
Kōke‘e State Park is located on Kauai’s western side, very near Waimea Canyon. The 4,345-acre park is covered in forest, wildflowers, and hiking trails, making it an excellent spot to see native plants and colorful endemic Hawaiian forest birds like the ʻapapane, ‘iwi, and moa. Not to mention, the park has roughly 45 miles of hiking trails for visitors to explore. Some paths take you to views of Waimea Canyon, while others meander through humid woodlands with panoramic vistas of valleys leading to the North Shore.
When you go on a hike, there are many things to consider – the difficulty level, how long the hike will be, and what sights you want to see. It can be difficult to figure all this out on your own and even more challenging to try and modify an existing tour to fit your specific needs. That’s where private tour guides come in. Guides are experienced professionals who know the area well and can take you to some of the island’s most beautiful and hidden spots. They also have expert knowledge about flora and fauna, as well as local history and culture, so you’ll get to learn a lot while on your hike. Hiking with a guide is much safer than hiking on your own, and our guides carry first aid equipment and are trained for a variety of different emergencies.
