We will head down the road and explore Keanae Peninsula, home to a traditional Hawaiian village with incredibly rich traditions that have been lovingly kept alive for centuries. There you can take in taro fields tended by dedicated mahi’ai (cultivators). Plus, stop by an original stone missionary church built all the way back in 1856 – miraculously surviving the destructive tsunami of 1946!
Come experience a tropical delight at the Nahiku Marketplace. Here, you can treat your taste buds to some of Hawaii’s local delicacies like smoked fish, coconut shrimp and buttery ‘ulu (breadfruit). Not only that – find unique gifts such as rare jewelry crafted from shells and semiprecious stone, spiritual icons carved out of woodwork, or bright glass art pieces to hang in your home and remember your visit to Maui.
Explore a world of wonder beneath the surface with us – an ancient lava flow just waiting to be discovered! Illuminated by headlamps, we’ll find geological features that captivate and intrigue. We also take this opportunity to learn about Pele, Hawaiian Goddess of Fire who crafted these beautiful islands; she’s so beloved they call her Ka wahine ʻai honua or “earth eating woman”! Caving enthusiasts won’t want to miss out on such an amazing journey into history and myth.
