The tour begins with a pickup from your hotel or resort in Keauhou, Kona, Waikoloa, and Kohala between 7am – 8am. This is a full day tour, so be sure to wear comfortable clothing and close toed walking shoes. The morning will kick off with a drive along Saddle Road, which is aptly named as it sits in between the mountains of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Guests will have opportunities to take pictures of the huge lava fields left in the wake of previous eruptions. From there the drive continues into the town of Hilo where the surroundings become incredibly lush and vibrant. See the famous Akaka and Rainbow falls, then continue into the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden. This garden valley contains numerous nature trails that loop through the surrounding jungle where you will be able to catch glimpses of more waterfalls, babbling streams, and incredible views. Not only that, but you will be able to get up-close and personal with over 2000 species of rare exotic plants.
A break will be taken for lunch where guests will be treated to various local favorites including teriyaki chicken, fish, sweet potatoes, and steamed rice. Juices, assorted snacks, and bottled water will also be provided. After lunch it’s back to the road with a trip to the the longest black sand beach in Hawaii at Waipio Valley Lookout. From this lookout you will be able to see for miles into the ocean with massive sea cliffs as the backdrop. Return time is expected to be 8.5 hours after departure.
