Pride of America (POA) is based in the Hawaiian Islands and cruises from Honolulu Harbor at 5 PM on Saturday and returns at 7 AM the following Saturday. Guests who come in the day before, or leave the day after have a full day to explore the island.
Many guests arrive and stay for a couple of nights before or after in Waikiki. We recommend coming in a couple of days prior so you can enjoy the island of Oahu and then fly out the day the ship returns to port. Tours with pick-up at Honolulu Harbor Cruise Ship Pier can provide luggage storage for the day and take guests on great sightseeing experiences then drop them off at their hotel or the airport.
This cruise makes a two-day port of call with the ship docked at the pier the whole time. Guests will have up to 35 hours to explore Maui, leaving at 5 PM the following day. We recommend doing a Road to Hana on your first day. On the second day, you can get up early and watch the sunrise on Haleakala or ride out to Molokini for a snorkeling tour and even see humpback whales from Jan to April.
There are many combinations of activities so depending on the group, a short hike and a helicopter tour may work better. On the second day, tours will not go to Hana or do sunsets because of the time constraints. On the first day, snorkel and sunrise tours will not be available.
The second port of call on the Pride Of America cruise gives you a chance to check out this historic town and visit an active volcano. Most guests will take a full-day sightseeing tour to visit Volcanoes National Park, a black sand beach, waterfalls, and more sights around Hilo.
Not everyone is into volcanoes so there some activities within an hour drive that are available including ATVs, horseback rides, helicopter flights, and other great experiences. (They do not include transportation so please book that option at checkout when available.)
This is the only stop on the cruise where a tender boat is utilized. The short stop POA makes off the coast of Kailua-Kona is wonderful. The views are spectacular and the historic town is a nice place to stroll for a bit.
The experiences and sightseeing tours from this location are short and rich in the culture and history of the area. Unfortunately, the rides tend to be long and the stops short due to time constraints.
Some tours are leaving from the Kailua-Kona pier like submarine or snorkel trips. For those wanting to get into the air, there are many helicopter tour options about 30-50 minute drive away. (Choose our roundtrip activity transfer service at checkout or make your way to the activity starting location.)
Guests wish they had more time on this island, the two days will not feel like enough. On the first day, a trip out to Waimea Canyon, combined with a fern grotto cruise and a luau may be the best day of different experiences possible in Hawaii.
The second day can be filled with unique adventures and fun for all age groups. Spend the day mountain tubing or ATVing. Maybe head out for a hike or zip instead. All these adventures are available but cruise ship guests will only have time to choose one of them mid-day so you have time to return to the ship for departure.
One of the best experiences (on an island full of great places to see) is enjoying a helicopter ride around to see canyons, waterfalls, craters, and the famed Na Pali Coast. It is something you will not soon forget.
Our tours and activity recommendations are designed so they return you to the ship in plenty of time before the “All Aboard” call.
We guarantee you won’t miss the ship’s departure. In the unlikely event that it occurs, we will make arrangements and cover expenses so you meet the ship at the next port of call. (This applies only to activities that include pickup and return or you purchase our transportation option.)
Please get in touch with us if you want to extend your stay in Hawaii before or after your Norwegian Cruise Lines – Pride Of America cruise. We have all sorts of transportation options, uniquely Hawaiian experiences, and great hotels to share with you.
