Road to Hana Tours
The Best Road to Hana Rainforest and Waterfall Tours In Hawaii
Road to Hana – The Most Must-See Destination In Maui!
One of the top things to do in Maui is to drive the Road to Hana. The 51 miles of Hana Highway start in Kahului (where the airport is) and travel past the hippie surf town of Paia, through the rainforest, and into the town of Hana on Maui’s eastern coast.
Because the road to Hana has over 600 hairpin turns, many of them blind corners, driving non-stop can take up to three hours! Hana Highway winds through rainforests and along towering ocean cliffs, and traverses more than 50 one-lane bridges! You’ll want to factor in ample time to stop at overlooks, waterfalls, and a famous black sand beach. Prepare to drive slowly as you’ll likely be navigating around lost tourists (this may be you). Also adding time to the drive is sharing the road with local traffic as residents make their way to and from work. Plan for an eight- to ten-hour day of white-knuckled sightseeing – but it’s totally worth it.
If you truly wish to experience the best of the road to Hana in a relaxed and entertaining way, we recommend a road to Hana tour. Professional drivers know the culture, legends, and history of Maui’s “Hana side” and share stories of life on Maui while visitors relax in the comfort of custom vans built for the difficult road. Food and beverages are provided and the experienced guides will plan each sight-seeing stop for you, providing you the best experience for your time.
We can help you choose the perfect road to Hana experience! From full-day “loop” tours that include a stop at the Pools of Oheo to fly and drive tours that include a one way, van tour and a helicopter ride return, the road to Hana is not to be missed during your Maui vacation!
A hike with a guide is recommended in Maui. Often the areas that are shown on guidebooks are no longer maintained and could be kapu (off-limits). A guide will also keep you safe on our trails as sudden weather can create incredible floods quickly. Stay safe hiking in the Hana forests.
Sightsee the Hana highway and the entire north and eastern coastline of the island of Maui on one of our helicopter tours. You can even do a helicopter flight combined with a drive to or from Hana. The best of both worlds so itʻs our most popular 1/2 day tour!
Are you staying on another island and want to visit Maui for the day? We can help make that happen. Take our 1-day tour from Oahu below or contact us to arrange a trip from another island. We can make your island-hopping dreams come true!
There are several ways to experience the road to Hana. Some only go halfway to Hana before turning back. Some go to Hana and include the black sand beach on the way back. Others continue past Hana to the Pools of Oheo in Haleakala National Park and then return. The option covering the most distance heads past the Pools of Oheo and completes the “full loop” around Haleakala circling around the leeward side to the green slopes of upcountry Maui and back down to Kahului. Regardless of what route you end up picking, you’re looking at a 10 to 12 hour day.
