Big Island Surfing & SUP Tour FAQs

Can I bring my own surfboard, rash guard, or booties?

We provide all students with soft top long boards, rash guards, and booties. If you are taking a private lesson, you are more than welcome to bring your own board.
What should I bring to a surf lesson?

Towels and (reef safe) sunscreen. Everything else is provided for your lesson. Surfboard, leash, water shirt and shoes, and a lifeguard surf coach are all included for our students.
Is SUP Hard to Learn?

SUP is one of the easiest water sports to learn, which is part of the reason it's become so popular in recent years! Our instructors will teach you basics like finding your "sweet spot" and how to stand up, and they'll make sure everyone is confident in their abilities and having a great time.
I cannot swim, can I take a surfing lesson?

Yes, we can certainly take you surfing. We do require for safety that non-swimmers take a private lesson one on one. To join our other lesson types, students must be able to swim comfortably in the ocean without assistance or a lifejacket. We do have lifejackets available that non-swimmers may wear for their comfort during the lesson.
Are SUP lessons beginner friendly?

Yes! SUP lessons are for any level of experience. Helpful instructors will demonstrate on land before hitting the waters. Ala Moana beach has calm waters and plenty of room to paddle around, making it the perfect place to learn SUP!
