Description
The Surfrider Oʻahu Beach Cleanup Program is part of a broader initiative to keep Hawaiʻi’s beaches clean, protect marine wildlife, and reduce ocean pollution. Each month, Surfrider Oʻahu hosts beach cleanups at different beaches around the island, where volunteers gather to remove trash, plastic, and other debris that accumulates along the shorelines.
Beach cleanups typically last 2-3 hours and are open to people of all ages. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own reusable gloves, bags, or buckets to reduce waste, but Surfrider can provide you with bags and gloves to borrow.
In addition to physically cleaning up the beaches, Surfrider collects data during each event to track the types and amounts of trash being found. This data is crucial for supporting policy changes to reduce plastic pollution and other environmental threats to our oceans. Join a cleanup, help preserve our coastlines, and contribute to long-term environmental protection.
