Learn About Hawaiʻi’s Forest Habitats
Description
Hawai’i Environmental Restoration (HER) is passionate about reviving the natural splendor of Hawai’i’s environment. With the islands' ecosystems facing increasing threats from development, agriculture, and invasive species, the urgency for action has never been greater. HER is dedicated to crafting and executing impactful conservation plans to safeguard what remains of Hawai’i’s precious native forests. By protecting these vital ecosystems, we ensure the preservation of Hawai’i’s one-of-a-kind cultural heritage and breathtaking biodiversity for generations to come.
Volunteers meet at 9:30 AM on Mondays and work until 4:00 PM, with the option to leave at 1:00 PM for those opting for a half-day. Guidance is available for navigating the forest, as some areas require assistance for safe entry and exit. The full day is encouraged to maximize participation and support the restoration efforts, but half-day participation is also welcome.
Participants work alongside experienced conservation staff, gaining hands-on experience and knowledge about Hawaiʻi’s native ecosystems. The activities help protect and rehabilitate the island’s forests and coastal areas, ensuring that future generations can enjoy Hawaiʻi’s natural beauty. We seek to help people make a connection between the earth’s forests and our very sustenance as humans.
