Originally from the Black Hills of South Dakota, Doug first moved to Maui in 1983 at the age of 18 and has lived on the island for close to 40 years. He’s been a professional photographer and writer for decades and has been a guide, photographer and marketing specialist on Maui for over 25 years.
Today he photographs and writes about activities on all 4 major islands. He also trains our talented crew of guides and drivers while developing interesting, safe and culturally respectful experiences of Maui’s diverse beauty. He loves sharing his Aloha with guests through the history, stories and legends of old Hawaii. Doug has written and published over 60 articles over the years about topics such as Hawaiian history timelines, Pearl Harbor, Kilauea Volcano, plants and animals, ancient Polynesian navigation, the Hawaiian Monarchy, Hawaii geology and top things to do in the state.
