Start off your tour about 3:15pm with a drive around through historic Honolulu to scenic Rainbow Falls. View it from multiple perspectives and spot the colors that give this falls itʻs name. From here we travel a bit further up the road following the Wailuku River. We stop to explore the Kaumana Caves and take time to have a picnic-style dinner stop of sandwiches or salads. We catch the last glimpses of the sun and view it through the solar telescope. Traveling up into the saddle, the land between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, your guide will point out sights across Kona that you will now be able to see. After sunset, we venture up along the side of Mauna Kea for a great view of the night sky and see galaxies, clusters, nebulas and so much more. Enjoy a warming drink and a bit of dessert before heading back down to Hilo.
The tour starting from Kona is definitely special. We start off the day with a drive up to a great overlook location. We can view the sun through the solar telescope, enjoy the coastal and mountain views as well as enjoy some coffee and other warm drinks. We can take time to enjoy our deli-style lunch as the colors in the sky and on the mountain provide an inspiring scene. From this location we travel further up Saddle Road to enjoy a stargazing experience like no other from the side of Mauna Kea. Afterwards warm up with coffee, hot chocolate and a dessert before driving back down to Kona.

We pick up at hotels in Kona and Kohala making our way up the side of the mountain to view the setting sun with a solar telescope. See the spots and maybe even flares on the sun. We take some time to enjoy a brief deli-style dinner, taking in the colors of the mountain way above and the ocean way below.
After the sun sets, we head up to the side of Mauna Kea where we take you on a journey through history, culture and geology, as the changing scenery and lava flows criss-cross our path up. After dark we stop at the perfect spot to take out our larger celestial telescope. You will enjoy a tour of the sky. Meals and warm drinks are included on this 6.5-hour tour.
We start this tour with a drive through historic Hilo town with itʻs quaint downtown area, beautiful location and buildings. Our first stop is at Rainbow Falls, an incredible sight on the way up the slopes of Saddle Road.
We stop at various places including Kaumana Caves, Boiling Pots on the Wailua River and other overlooks. We even stop to look through a solar telescope (wherever the clouds clear, itʻs often cloudy in Hilo). We continue to climb up the sides of Mauna Kea to a clear area to enjoy the night sky through our telescope. Warm drinks and jackets are available. A deli-style picnic lunch is served at one of the stops.
