Volcano Unveiled Tour Features
A Day of Adventure
We will pick you up in Kona at Waikoloa and travel to Hawai’i Volcanos National Park for a day of adventure and wonder. This 12-hour in-depth experience includes transportation, a National Park Certified Guide to share a mix of natural and cultural history. Snacks, beverages, deli-style lunch, and dinner too! You will enjoy easy-to-moderate hiking around the park’s dynamic terrain and even visit a lava tube!
See the Lava after Dark
After dark, we gather near the edge of Halemaumau crater to see Madame Pele’s handiwork in the lava glow and – if we’re lucky – perhaps a small eruption in the caldera! You will learn how the Hawaiian Island chain was formed and is still growing.
Lunch, dinner, and snacks are included, and we will provide walking sticks and rain ponchos for your comfort.
The Legends of Pele
Your Certified Guide will “talk story” - sharing some local legends about Hawaii’s most revered goddess, Madame (or Tutu) Pele. Pele is the Hawaiian goddess of volcanoes and fire. Otherwise known as Pelehonuamea, “She who shapes the sacred land,” Pele sends rivers of lava down the mountainside, devouring small towns and entire forests - while creating new land. Hearing the fascinating legends of Hawaii helps visitors understand and respect the local culture.

Description
On this in-depth park experience, your experienced guide will illuminate the historical events that changed the landscape of Hawai’i Island. Enjoy 2-3 miles of hiking around the park’s dynamic terrain where you’ll get a first-hand look at how the Islands were formed – and are still growing!
We’ll visit a large private lava tube known for its bright yellow and gold microbial mats living on the cave walls. See firsthand how these destructive forces can also be the source of new life.
We will stay after dark, peering deep inside Halemaumau Crater. If we’re lucky enough to visit during an eruption, we will catch glimpses of lava and see the night sky light up with Pele’s orange and red glow.
We’ll keep you hydrated and energized with beverages and snacks throughout the day. Lunch will be your choice of delicious sandwiches from Christine’s Deli. You’ll have a filling hot dinner too! Make your choices at checkout - vegan options are available for both meals.
Set out across the strange and volcano molded landscape on an adventurous tour to see the marks that Pele has made and is still making upon the land.
