Description
Join the Maui Cultural Lands Volunteer Program for a unique, fulfilling experience focused on mālama ʻāina. Every Saturday, volunteers of all ages are invited to participate in restoring and maintaining Maui’s ancestral lands, particularly the beautiful Honokōwai Valley. This off-the-beaten-path adventure offers participants the opportunity to step into Maui’s natural landscapes while directly contributing to the conservation and preservation of native ecosystems.
The volunteer day consists of clearing overgrowth, maintaining trails, and engaging in hands-on tasks that are vital to the ongoing restoration efforts. Local guides will accompany you, sharing the cultural significance of the land and the importance of preservation efforts that stretch back generations.
Designed to be family and group-friendly, this is an inclusive experience where everyone is welcome. As you work to care for the area, using gloves and tools provided by the organization, you’ll also have the chance to meet locals and other volunteers, creating a strong sense of community through a shared goal of giving back to Hawaiʻi’s ʻāina.
The environment can be rugged, with hot sun and uneven terrain, so be prepared for an inspiring, physically active day in Maui’s scenic outdoors. Be sure to bring water, reef-safe sunscreen, and lunch. For those staying on Maui, optional transportation to the site can be arranged, making this a hassle-free opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause.
Whether you’re a visitor or a local, this volunteer program offers a chance to leave a positive impact on Maui’s natural beauty, while gaining valuable insight into its cultural and environmental significance.
