Protect Hawaiʻi’s Unique Dryland Forest
Description
The Waikōloa Dry Forest Initiative Volunteer Days provide a unique opportunity to help conserve one of Hawaiʻi’s most endangered ecosystems. Volunteers play a vital role in preserving and restoring the Waikōloa Dry Forest Preserve by planting native species, removing invasive plants, and maintaining trails and habitat areas.
Meeting at the Waikōloa Dry Forest Preserve front gate at 8:00 AM, volunteers are provided with gloves, tools, safety equipment, and water. Participants will work under the guidance of conservation staff, learning about the significance of the dryland forest and how their efforts contribute to the long-term health of this ecosystem.
The event concludes with refreshments at 12:00 PM, offering a chance for volunteers to relax and connect with fellow participants while reflecting on the day’s work.
This volunteer opportunity is open to all ages and requires no prior experience. Together, we blaze trails, banish invasive weeds, plant vibrant trees, gather native seeds, and nurture the plants that will one day flourish into the lush, thriving forests of Hawai’i’s future!
