See The Villages, Luaus, Shows & Demonstrations
While people from all over the world know the word ‘aloha’ and feel the warm embrace of the word, few are aware of the extensive history of the Hawaiian people, an origin story that crosses oceans and numerous foreign islands. Though it dominates Oceania, Polynesian culture is underrepresented in much of the world which is one reason the Polynesian Cultural Center has worked so diligently to represent these island nations through cultural experiences. The activity center started out in 1962 as a hukilau (a traditional fishing festival) that included a feast and entertainment. It has since expanded to offer many activities, experiences, and places to eat and shop.
There is a lot of amazing things to learn and enjoy from the Polynesian culture. Make it a stop on your vacation for a luau, a day exploring the villages, or combine it with another popular stop.

Hawaiians are actually a mixed-race of Polynesians. It is believed they arrived in two waves – the first starting around 500 A.D. from the Marquesas Island and the second around 1200 A.D. from the Tahitian and the Samoan Islands.
In 1966 Elvis Presley filmed a segment of his movie “Paradise Hawaiian Style” at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
Over 70% of the jobs at the park are performed by college students, many of whom are on scholarship from Polynesian islands across the Pacific. When you visit the Polynesian Cultural Center you are helping these students earn their degree at BYU-Hawaiʻi!
