Kaimuki, situated just mauka (mountain side) of Diamond Head, was granted by King Kamehameha III to future King William Lunalilo in 1848. It was subsequently sold for $2,325 in 1884 and again for $20,000 in 1898. By the early 1900s, Kaimuki evolved into an upscale residential area. Today, it’s a charming district ideal for leisurely strolls, surrounded by picturesque historic homes and featuring unique shops and specialty boutiques.
