Expedition South Kona
Discover Hidden Beauties Of The Island On This Snorkeling Adventure
Experience the best of South Kona on this snorkeling expedition. You'll get to swim in the clear waters of Pu'uhonua O Honaunau and Kealakekua Bay and soak up the sun with a view of Captain Cook's monument. This is a great way to see some of the most beautiful and culturally significant sites on the Big Island.
Kealakekua Bay is one of the most popular snorkeling destinations on the Big Island of Hawai’i. The bay is home to a variety of marine life, including turtles, rays, and tropical fish. The waters are calm and clear, making it an ideal place for beginners to try snorkeling for the first time. There is also a shipwreck in the bay that is teeming with fish, making it a popular spot for experienced snorkelers. And don’t forget to look up at the monument – it’s an impressive sight! Snorkeling Kealakekua Bay is an unforgettable experience that will leave you wanting to come back for more.
Snorkel Honaunau Bay, also known as the Place of Refuge, is one of the best snorkeling destinations on the Big Island of Hawai’i. This sheltered cove is home to a vibrant coral reef and a diverse array of marine life. There are two main areas to snorkel in the bay: the reef and the lava tubes. The reef is located close to the shore, and it is teeming with fish. The lava tubes are located offshore, and they are home to turtles and other larger marine life. The water is calm and clear, making it perfect for beginners and experienced snorkelers alike. Snorkeling Honaunau Bay is an unforgettable experience and one that should not be missed on a trip to the Big Island.
Our third snorkeling location on the Expedition South Kona tour is a bit more adventurous than the first two. We choose from a variety of secluded spots that are less protected from the elements. This means that the captain has to consider the prevailing conditions on the day of the tour in order to select the best location. Regardless of which spot we end up at, you can be sure that it is not one that is typically visited by other tour companies. This is your chance to explore an amazing underwater world that you wouldn’t have had access to otherwise. So come prepared for an adventure and get ready to see some incredible sights!

On this tour, you'll experience some of the most culturally significant and visually spectacular snorkeling in Hawaii. We'll visit Pu'uhonua O Honaunau, also known as the City of Refuge, and Kealakekua Bay, where Captain Cook first landed on the island. We'll enjoy lunch in the shade of the canopy within view of the monument to Captain Cook, with the cliffs of the bay soaring above us. This is a truly unique opportunity to see the Southern Coast of the Big Island and experience things the majority of people who visit our sacred island do not.
Once in the water, there is so much beauty waiting for you to see it for yourself. Just beneath the gleaming waves are animals both varied in appearance and completely at home in the gentle waters off Hawaii. From tropical fish to small sharks, they are all beautiful to behold and important to the local ecosystem. See these creatures in their natural habitat and take back home the memories of having glimpsed the strange other world that is the ocean.
