Be sure to arrive at the Lihue Airport 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time to check in, meet your pilot, and receive safety instructions. Upon liftoff, your pilot will do a flyover of one of Kauai’s most cherished landmarks, Waimea Canyon. Sometimes called the ‘Grand Canyon of the Pacific’ this expansive natural landmark is one of the highlights of the flight. From there, you will fly in and around the Hanapepe Valley, which looks just as pristine and beautiful as it did hundreds of years ago. Heading back towards the ocean will bring you to the Na Pali coast which your pilot will follow to make sure you get plenty of views of the sea cliffs, waterfalls, hidden valleys, and secret beaches found there. Weather permitting, the final stop on the tour will be Mount Waialeale. This magnificent and very wet Kauai landmark sees an average rainfall of 450 inches per year, which has completely covered the dormant shield volcano in a thick layer of jungle vegetation.

This fertile jungle valley’s name in Hawaiian means “crushed bay”, which may be due to the landslides the region sees on occasion. Hanapepe is known for its deep bay area which is surrounded by cliffs as well as an excellent place to grow staple Hawaiian crops including bananas, sweet potato, and kalo.
The Na Pali Coast is a treasured region of Kauai and stretches for 17 miles along the island’s North Shore. The Na Pali coast is dotted with picturesque beaches hidden by towering volcanic cliffs and ridges that are covered in thick jungle greenery. The waterfalls that tumble out of the mountains only add to the breathtaking scenery. Pictures simple can’t do the Na Pali coast justice, and once you see it from the cabin of your helicopter you will understand why.
Mount Waialeale is incredibly difficult to get to on foot, but even so, the dormant shield volcano is a known location where ancient Hawaiians would offer sacrifices, honor ancestors, and construct heiaus. From a helicopter, you will be able to enjoy glimpses of the huge ridges and numerous waterfalls that this region is known for.
