Kaua’i Waimea Canyon, Wailua River and Fern Grotto Tour Features
See the Spectacular Waimea Canyon
Visit Waimea Canyon on Kaua'i's West Side for breathtaking and unforgettable views of rugged buttes, crags, and deep valleys. Though not as large as its Arizona counterpart, Waimea Canyon is a stunning natural wonder spanning 14 miles long, 1 mile wide, and over 3,600 feet deep. You simply must experience this unique natural wonder in Hawai’i!
Take an Open Boat Ride Down the Wailua River
Take a serene boat ride on Kaua'i’s Wailua River, the state's only sailable river fed by Mt. Wai'ale'ale, one of the world's wettest places. The 2-mile journey provides a look into ancient Hawai'i culture, songs, and stories. Enjoy stunning views from the spacious, open-air boat, with mangrove trees along the riverbank. The trip's highlight is the lovely Fern Grotto, a beautiful lava cave draped in ferns.
Visit the Stunning Fern Grotto
The Fern Grotto is a natural lava-rock cave surrounded by lush hanging ferns and tropical plants and cooled by the mist of a waterfall. Once reserved for Hawaiian royalty, riverboat tours have been offered for over five decades, making them available to everyone. The calm setting of the grotto functions like a natural amphitheater, creating a magical sound for musicians playing beautiful Hawaiian music. This unique Kaua'i location is a top choice for wedding ceremonies.

Description
Discover Kaua’i's natural wonders with these must-visit attractions! Behold the majesty of Waimea Canyon, affectionately dubbed the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." Admire the valley's lush greenery and bright red soil from the Waimea Canyon Lookout. Waimea Canyon is one of Hawai’i’s most remarkable physical formations, and it’s hard to imagine a more amazing view.
Everyone loves a good cup of coffee, and you shouldn't miss the chance to explore a real coffee plantation. Hawai’i is the only US state where coffee can be grown on a commercial scale due to the climate, and this means that your visit to Kaua’i includes the rare chance to check out a coffee plantation on us. It even includes a tasting!
Be amazed by the majestic 151-foot-tall waterfall at ʻŌpaekaʻa Falls and learn about its namesake, "rolling shrimp". Flowing down into a hidden pool, this 151-foot-tall, 40-foot-wide waterfall is easily one of the island's most accessible major waterfalls. Grab a quick bite to eat while in Old Koloa Town. This historic little community is a fun place to explore while nibbling on something tasty!
Witness the power of the Spouting Horn Blowhole as waves crash through lava rock. The Blowhole is one of the most photographed spots on Kaua’i! An old Hawaiian legend is that a giant lizard guarded this area and would eat anyone who tried to swim in the nearby waters.
Take in the stunning broad views of Hanapēpē Valley, which famous explorer Charles Wilkes visited in 1840. The Hanapepe Valley Lookout is another one of those beautiful Kauai views, offering a stirring view of a lush valley and rugged mountains.
Enjoy a narrated two-mile ride on an open-air boat down the tranquil Wailua River. The Wailua River was in one of the famous wedding scenes in Elvis’ Blue Hawai'i! Your heart will soar as you journey to the Fern Grotto, a rock cave dripping in ferns while listening to the delightful melody of the Hawaiian Wedding Song.
