Molokini or Coral Gardens Afternoon Snorkel Sail Features
Onboard a Luxury Catamaran
Enjoy the afternoon in this luxury catamaran at Molokini Crater or the nearby sheltered coves of Coral Gardens. Two mountains are in view – the West Maui Mountains and Haleakalā Volcano, as we cruise through Mā'alaea Bay. It’s a condensed, family-friendly afternoon adventure filled with colorful reefs, fish, and larger marine life such as turtles, and maybe even a pod of dolphins will appear! A light lunch is available for a small fee.
Molokini Crater
This horseshoe-shaped islet between the island of Maui and the island of Kahoʻolawe is a marine protected area and one of the world's highest-rated snorkel and dive spots! Molokini Crater is the tippy top of a volcano whose submerged caldera contains a reef protected for eons from wind and waves. As a result, the animals and coral here have evolved in isolation for many millennia, producing species found nowhere else in the world but here! Visibility can reach over 100 feet in the crater, and much of the reef is in shallow waters, which makes for excellent snorkeling. Don’t forget to look to the sky as Molokini Crater is also a Marine Bird Preserve too with the Hawaiian Iwi (frigate) bird nesting on the overhead cliffs.
Coral Gardens
The protected coves along Maui’s Pali coastline are on the leeward side of the West Maui Mountains, where they are protected from wind and waves. The abundance of natural reef formations and clear and calm ocean conditions make for one of Maui’s top year-round snorkel spots! The island’s prevailing northerly trade winds can get quite strong in the afternoons (15 to 25 mph) this is an excellent alternative if the weather prevents us from getting to Molokini. Our experienced crew and expert captain have the final say about the snorkel location for the afternoon. Your safety and comfort are our top priority!
