Description
The Loko I'a Pa'aiau fishpond offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore and contribute to restoring a sacred Hawaiian site. As one of Oʻahu’s royal fishponds, Pa'aiau was built over 400 years ago and is now being restored through a community partnership between the U.S. Navy, local organizations, and residents. Listed on the National Historic Register, this 6.34-acre fishpond is a historical site and a living space for traditional Hawaiian aquaculture.
Visitors can engage in cultural activities, including an overview of the site's history, and participate in volunteer restoration efforts that include clearing invasive plants, maintaining the fishpond's stone walls, and ensuring the ecosystem's health. Visits typically last three hours and are available by appointment. Special tours are offered on Saturdays, including a guided historical walk and cultural protocol.
Pa'aiau Fishpond is a place for learning, healing, and connecting with nature, making it an ideal experience for individuals, families, and groups who want to deepen their understanding of Hawaiian culture while giving back to the community.

- 8:45 AM: Arrive at Pa'aiau Fishpond for check-in and orientation.
