Learn about the history of this area from our experienced local crew. You will see the 27-foot-high obelisk that looms up from the coastal forest to mark the place where British explorer Captain Cook met his end. The obelisk was set up as a memorial by his fellow countrymen in 1878, on land that, while still technically part of the United States, is owned by the British. Your guide will describe what led to Cook’s demise and the part he played in modern Hawaiian history.
