Waikoloa is situated on the western coast of the Big Island 45 minutes north of Kona, and about 2 hours from Volcanoes National Park. The reason Waikoloa is such a popular spot for vacation goers is because of the picturesque location along some of the Big Island’s best beaches. Here you can enjoy views of Waiulua Bay and take advantage of many outdoor activities including hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding.

If you are planning on going to the Hilo side of the Big Island, you will want to set aside a day because it is a long drive from Waikoloa. If you are interested in activities closer to the resort, then there are quite a few options that require much less driving. You can take a boat tour to view the marine wildlife in the reefs, take a helicopter tour around the island, get a massage or spa treatment, and much more. There are also miles of hiking trails in the area where you can interact with and enjoy the amazing natural surroundings of the Big Island.
