While exploring the ranch’s 900 acres of beautiful views during your planter’s experience, you’ll learn about local history and conservation efforts, as well as have the opportunity to see livestock and wildlife. By planting a tree, you contribute to the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative. Leave a lasting, positive impact on Hawai‘i’s landscapes through the planter’s experiences at Gunstock Ranch. Guided by knowledgeable experts, you’ll learn about local ecosystems, native plants, and the importance of reforestation to the island’s heritage. When you reach the planting site, you’ll take part in a special ceremony, planting a dedicated tree that supports the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative (HLRI). Since 2014, HLRI has worked to restore native Hawaiian forests by planting species like koa, milo, and ohia, helping to protect wildlife and reduce carbon emissions. Your tree is trackable, allowing you to follow its growth online and stay connected to your contribution. This eco-friendly experience blends education, hands-on action, and the chance to make a meaningful memory in a serene, scenic setting.

Planter’s Experience:

This tour is a guide-driven experience.
To participate in this tour, an add-on purchase of one Hawaiian Legacy Tour tree, per booking, is required. All proceeds from the tree go to the non-profit, HLRI.

Private Off-Road Planter’s Experience:

To participate in this activity, everyone must be at least 5 years old.
This tour is a guide-driven experience.
To participate in this tour, an add-on purchase of one Hawaiian Legacy Tour tree per booking is required. All proceeds from the tree go to the non-profit HLRI.

Horseback Planter’s Experience:

To participate in this activity, everyone must be at least 7 years old and weigh under 235 lbs (106 kg), and no pregnant riders. Weight limit is strictly enforced with a scale. No refunds will be issued if guests do not meet the participation requirements.
This activity is not recommended for guests with knee, hip, and back problems.
To participate in this tour, you must purchase an add-on of one Hawaiian Legacy Tour tree per booking. All proceeds from the tree go to the non-profit HLRI

Cancellation

Your purchase is 100% refundable, provided you cancel your reservation at least 24 hours (for group charters) or 72 hours (for private charters) prior to its check-in time. The company reserves the right to cancel or reschedule tours at any time due to weather or capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any horseback riding restrictions?

Yes. For the safety of our riders and our horses, participants must be at least 7 years old and weigh less than 235 pounds. The weight limit is enforced with a scale. Pregnant riders are not permitted. In addition, this activity is not recommended for guests with knee, hip, or back problems.
How early should I arrive?

Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your ride’s start time to complete the check-in process. All riders are required to attend a 15-minute safety briefing.
What should I wear?

For your comfort and safety, please wear long pants and covered shoes. Sunscreen and sunglasses are recommended for sun protection, and a light jacket may be useful if it’s chilly. We operate tours rain or shine, so please plan accordingly. Please note that backpacks and large bags are not allowed on tours.
