Located in Waikiki, Honolulu, this hotel welcomes over one million guests annually, all of whom must present the United States Uniformed Services Privilege and Identification Card for accommodation. Despite being owned by the Department of Defense (DOD), the hotel operates independently, sustaining itself without government funding.
The hotel made its debut on October 25, 1975, marked by a traditional Hawaiian ceremony. A significant expansion occurred in 1991, introducing a new pool, beverage bar, and luau garden. Subsequently, the Maile tower was erected opposite the Ilima tower, boosting the total room count to 818.
