Follow the Umauma River through dramatic Hawaiian scenery as you descend multiple waterfalls and swim in natural pools. Your guides will provide a pre-tour briefing, outfitting, and hands-on training before you begin the canyon descent. This beginner-accessible experience combines guided instruction with rappelling and canyoneering techniques for an exciting journey through the river and jungle.
Waterfalls, Rappels & River Pools
Experience 2–3 rappels, including descents of up to 150 feet, as you make your way through the canyon. Between rappel points, swim downriver through natural pools and take in the surrounding Hawaiian scenery. The adventure finishes with a jungle climb exit, creating a varied experience both in and around the water.
Professional Instruction & Safety Gear
Receive training and guided instruction before entering the canyon, with certified guides leading you through the experience. Please be there 45 minutes prior to your tour starting to get the most out of your exciting day. Get geared up with rappelling equipment and a helmet. And don’t worry if this is your first time – the helpful guides will provide clear and easy instructions. From there, you’re ready to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. Your guide will lead the way to the river where the real fun begins!
Rappel down steep 205-foot cliffs, beyond the darkness of a cave and into the freshwater Umauma River below! Float down the river past a historic, perfectly preserved dam. Splash around in the dam’s infinity pool-like waters and smile for the camera at this gorgeous location! Then the adventure continues! Boulder-hop your way to a natural waterslide where the stone has formed a perfect river water slide. Then get ready to rappel as you, now a pro, make your way down two additional waterfalls. Remember, you’ll be in and out of water on this trip, so wear a swimsuit and bring a change of clothes and a towel.

Instructions
- A waiver will need to be signed at check-in. You will be wearing a helmet and harness for safety while rappelling. You will also be provided with a wetsuit and shoes to wear.
- Please check in 45 minutes before your tour.
- The minimum age requirement is 10. Participants must weigh between 70 lbs. – 250 lbs.
- Children under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Long hair should be tied back. Sunglasses and eyeglasses should be secured with a strap. Smoking is not permitted.
Restrictions
- Guests must be able to swim
- Not suitable for guests with neck or back injuries or for pregnant women
- Not recommended for guests with heart conditions or mobility issues
- The tour does not operate in high or rapidly rising water conditions
- Weather forecasts in Hawaiʻi can be unreliable
- If conditions appear unfavorable, your guide will contact you in advance to reschedule the tour or arrange an alternative activity
