Kahalu’u Bay is the perfect place to learn to surf. The water is calm and the waves are gentle, making it an ideal spot for beginners. With a 2:1 ratio of students to instructors, you and your friend will receive personal attention and plenty of opportunities to practice your new skills. Before you paddle out, you’ll receive a 10-minute classroom tutorial to get you geared up, prepped, and warmed up for the real waves. You’ll learn the basics of everything you need to know about surfing, from paddling and popping up to reading the waves and riding them. By the end of the lesson, you’ll be confident in your abilities and ready to take on Hawai’i’s amazing waves.

Itinerary

Sample Itinerary (7:30 am class)
7:15 AM – Arrive for check-in and classroom instruction
7:30 AM – Depart to the beach park (self-transport)
7:45 AM – Arrive at the bay and check in with the instructor
8:00 AM – Paddle out for private surf session
9:30 AM – Paddle back in
9:45 AM – Check out with the instructor, return rental gear, optional photo op, and gratuity. Showers and restrooms are available.
10:00 AM – Departure (self-transport)

Restrictions

Students must disclose any major past injuries, surgeries, medical conditions, or physical or mental limitations.
Minimum age: 10
The maximum weight limit for surf equipment is 265 lbs.
Pregnant women are not advised to surf due to inherent risk factors and should consult a physician before participating.
Individuals with health concerns, impairments, or mobility challenges should contact us prior to booking. We may recommend our 1:1 Private Solo Surf option to ensure proper lifeguard support.

Special requirements:
All students must be able to swim, follow basic English instructions, and participate in intensive cardiovascular and physical activity.

Parents or guardians not surfing must remain on location to accompany their minor children.

Cancellation

Any request for a refund 72 hours or more prior to the start of the tour or activity is honored with a full cash refund.

No refunds are issued for any cancellations inside the 72-hour period, prior to the start of your tour. There is no refund for no-shows. There is no charge for date change or tour change based on tour availability outside of the 72-hour cancellation period.

Students must be able to swim before participating. Everything else you need to know will be included in a 10-minute classroom tutorial at the HLSI headquarters.
