Activities In West Maui
The west side of Maui has been popular with visitors since the early 1970s when Kaanapali became Hawaii’s first planned resort development. The area rapidly became a world-class destination. The devastating fires in August 2023 have significantly impacted West Maui, Lāhainā in particular.
With the temporary closure of Lāhainā Harbor, many boats are offering cruises out of Maalaea and Kaanapali Harbors. There are still plenty of whale-watching, snorkeling, and dinner/cocktail cruises to choose from. Maalaea Harbor is centrally located between the Kahului Airport and the Lāhainā and Kaanapali resort areas.
Although the Lāhainā area in West Maui is unsuitable for visitors, the rest of the island is ready and waiting for you. Experience the untouched beauty of The Valley Isle and make a difference by supporting the locals in the guest-related industry. Come and be a part of Maui’s revival.
