The Waianae Mountain Range is an impressive geological feature along the western coast of Oahu. It was formed from three volcanically active lava groups and is around 22 miles long and 9 miles wide. The original caldera, measuring 3 miles wide and 5 miles long, was located at the head of Lualualei Valley near Kolekole Pass before being submerged and eroded over time. This range provides opportunities for breathtaking views, allowing visitors to witness the unique ecological system of Hawaii’s endemic plants and wildlife up close. Tourists can explore trails that meander through the mountain forests or observe the historic valleys below before reaching a 2,400-foot elevation peak at Palehua Ridge.
