The Molokini Crater is a partially submerged cinder cone that was formed over 150,000 years ago. Molokini is home to over 250 species of fish, making it a popular destination for both divers and snorkelers alike.

Two Tank Molokini Dive Features

We typically head out to Molokini first and moor on the inside of one of the corners of the crater. Here, the current is usually light and there is abundant fish life to be seen! Divers may reach 90 feet for a brief time, depending on the location and amount of current – your guides will assist you with local conditions each day.

For the second spot, we scope out the best conditions for that day and try to find a place that will allow us to spot some turtles! The depth of our second site can reach 40-50 feet in depth but is usually shallower for most of the dive.

Description

Molokini is an underwater crater that is popular among divers and snorkelers alike because of the wealth of marine life that inhabits the area. This Molokini 2 tank dive will take you to Molokini Crater, where you can see over 250 species of fish, and then to the shoreline where you might see turtles!

First, you will visit Molokini Crater, which is a partially submerged cinder cone that was formed over 150,000 years ago. The crater is now a State Marine Life and Bird Conservation District, and Molokini is one of only three such marine preserves in Hawaii. When you dive in Molokini, you will see a variety of colorful fish, including parrotfish, surgeonfish, angelfish, and more.

After Molokini, you will head to the shoreline where you might see turtles! Some of the turtles you might see on your dive include green sea turtles, hawksbill turtles, and loggerhead turtles. How Deep Do You Go?

With the necessary training and experience, the limit for recreational scuba diving is 40 meters. Beginning scuba divers stay shallower than about 18 meters unless you are a Junior Scuba Diver then it is 12 meters. Although these are the limits, some of the most popular diving is no deeper than 12 meters/40 feet where the water's warmer and the colors are brighter.
What Happens If I Use Up All My Air?

That's not likely because you have a gauge that tells you how much air you have at all times. This way, you can return to the surface with a safety reserve remaining. But to answer the question, if you run out of air, your buddy has a spare mouthpiece that allows you to share a single air supply while swimming to the surface.
What About Sharks?

Although incidents with sharks occur, they are very, very rare. Most commonly shark encounters primarily involve spear fishing or feeding sharks, both of which trigger erratic feeding behavior. Sharks’ main food source is fish and if they can get a free feed they will. Most of the time, if you see a shark, it's passing through and a relatively rare sight to enjoy.
Is There An Age Limit?

As long as the diver is certified, you can join us for this trip. If you are only snorkeling or a passenger, there is no age limit.

How Difficult Is The Dive?

An advanced dive, the Molokini Backwall is a world-class wall and drift dive for certified divers only.
Is There An Age Limit?

As long as the diver has a minimum of 40 lifetime dives you can join us for this trip. If you don't have at least 40 dives and haven't been diving in the last 6 months, this isn't the dive for you.
