Tour Description

We spend the day exploring the rainforests of the Hilo and Hamakua coasts.

We start the day with pickup at the hotel in Hilo and drive through the historic downtown area, making our way North. There are various stops for beautiful overlooks and tasty tropical treats at local fruit farm stands.

Our first destination is Akaka State Park. We enjoy a stroll around this beautiful park and take in the majestic Akaka waterfalls at over 400 feet tall. There are other hidden waterfalls, creeks, and beauty seen throughout this easy stroll.

As we head further north towards Waipio we stop to enjoy a picnic in quaint Hamakua or Waipio towns. A box lunch will be available for guests.

After lunch, we go all the way to the end of the road to view Waipio Valley. This culturally important area was home to royalty and significant chiefs throughout Hawaiian history. Today itʻs home to very few who work to keep the tradition alive in the valley.

We return to Hilo and head down to the coast where we find a black sand beach, one of the few available throughout the island chain. You can take a moment to go for a swim if you want!

You will return back to your hotel after a full day of fun and exploration.

Yes, we will provide a box lunch at various locations depending on the total group size.
I am not much of a walker, will this trip be ok for me?

Yes, this has aspects that could be challenging but they are optional. There are some areas that require going up and down up to 200 feet on a steep but safe path.
What time will we be back to the Hotel?

We will get you back to Hilo around dinner time, between 4pm and 5pm.
Will we be able to swim at any of the stops?

Depending on the weather that day, you may be able to swim at the black sand beach stop we make later in the day. Itʻs a popular area for beginner snorkelers and those looking for a safe swim in the afternoon.
